How do I resize an amigurumi pattern?
Scale the magic ring and every stitch count by the same factor. A pattern starting with 6 sc becomes 9 sc for a toy 1.5 times larger, and the shaping stays identical so the proportions hold. Yarn use grows with the square of the factor, and safety eyes scale with the factor itself.

- Scale the magic ring and every stitch count by the same factor. A pattern that starts with 6 sc becomes 9 sc for a 1.5× larger toy, and each following round scales the same way. The shaping stays identical, so the piece keeps its proportions.
- Can I just use a bigger hook to make an amigurumi bigger?
- You can, but only up to a point. A hook one size up gains roughly 10 percent and starts to open gaps that stuffing shows through. For anything beyond that, scale the stitch counts or move to a heavier yarn.
- Do I need to change the number of rounds when resizing?
- Yes. Increase rounds go up with the ring — a 9-stitch ring needs more increase rounds than a 6-stitch ring to reach its widest point — and the straight rounds in the middle scale by the same factor as everything else.
- How much extra yarn will a bigger amigurumi need?
- Yarn use follows surface area, not height. Doubling the size roughly quadruples the yarn, so a 2× version of a one-skein toy needs about four skeins.
- What size safety eyes should I use after resizing?
- Scale the eyes by the same factor as the pattern, then round to the nearest half millimetre — safety eyes are sold in 0.5 mm steps. Eyes left at the original size are the fastest way to make an enlarged toy look wrong.
