How much should I charge for an amigurumi?
Add your materials, pay yourself an hourly rate for the time it took, add overhead and a margin, then gross the total up for marketplace fees. On typical numbers — 1.5 skeins of worsted, six hours at $18 an hour — that lands near $180 retail, which is far above what most handmade listings ask.
How the price is worked out
Materials are your yarn — cost per skein multiplied by how much of it went into the piece — plus safety eyes, stuffing, a tag and anything else consumed by this one make.
Labour is your hours multiplied by your hourly rate. This is the number most sellers leave out, and it is the reason so many handmade shops feel like they lose money on every order.
Overhead is the share of everything that keeps the shop running but does not belong to a single piece: packaging, a portion of your hook and needle set, listing fees, electricity. Ten percent is a reasonable starting point.
Fees are applied last and worked backwards. If a marketplace takes 9 percent, the calculator divides by 0.91 rather than adding 9 percent, so the amount you actually keep still matches your intended margin.

- What hourly rate should I charge for crochet?
- Most sellers start at their local minimum wage and move up as they get faster and their finishing improves. Crochet is slow work — an average amigurumi takes four to eight hours — so an honest rate is what usually separates a hobby from a business.
- Why is my amigurumi price higher than what people pay on Etsy?
- Because most listings under-price labour. A 6-hour toy priced at 25 dollars pays under 3 dollars an hour once yarn and fees come out. Rather than cut your rate, cut the hours: smaller sizes, simpler colour changes and repeat designs you already know by heart.
- Should I include the cost of the pattern?
- If you bought the pattern for a single make, put it in the other materials field. If you use it repeatedly, divide the price across the number of pieces you expect to sell and add that instead.
- What is a good wholesale price for handmade crochet?
- Wholesale is normally about half of retail, because the shop needs its own margin. If your wholesale price does not cover materials plus your hourly rate, the design is not viable for wholesale — sell it direct only.
