A frog is mostly one round body with two eye bumps on top, which makes it one of the quickest amigurumi to finish. The back legs are worked flat so it sits low and wide, the way a frog does.

Before you start

Work in a continuous spiral without joining rounds, and move a stitch marker up as you go. Every dec is an invisible decrease. Numbers in brackets are the stitch count at the end of the round.

Abbreviations: MR magic ring · sc single crochet · inc two sc in one stitch · dec invisible decrease · st stitch.

Gauge is not critical, but the fabric must be dense enough that stuffing does not show through. If it does, drop a hook size.

Body

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
  • Round 2: inc in each st around [12]
  • Round 3: [sc 1, inc] 6 times [18]
  • Round 4: [sc 2, inc] 6 times [24]
  • Round 5: [sc 3, inc] 6 times [30]
  • Round 6: [sc 4, inc] 6 times [36]
  • Rounds 7–12: sc in each st around [36]
  • Round 13: [sc 4, dec] 6 times [30]
  • Round 14: [sc 3, dec] 6 times [24]
  • Round 15: [sc 2, dec] 6 times [18]
  • Round 16: [sc 1, dec] 6 times [12]
  • Round 17: dec around [6]

Work the front ten stitches of rounds 7 to 12 in pale yellow for the belly, carrying the green inside. Stuff firmly, pressing the base flat as you close.

Eye bumps — make 2

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
  • Round 2: inc in each st around [12]
  • Rounds 3–5: sc in each st around [12]

Fit a safety eye between rounds 2 and 3 before stuffing. Stuff lightly and leave a long tail.

Back legs — make 2

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
  • Round 2: inc in each st around [12]
  • Rounds 3–7: sc in each st around [12]

Do not stuff. Flatten and sc across the opening to close.

Front legs — make 2

  • Round 1: 5 sc in magic ring [5]
  • Rounds 2–7: sc in each st around [5]

Stuff only the first three rounds so the leg bends where it meets the body.

Assembly

  1. Sew the eye bumps to the top of the body between rounds 3 and 5, close together, so they sit up like a real frog.
  2. Sew the flattened back legs to each side of the base, folded forward along the body.
  3. Attach the front legs at round 10, just inside the edges of the belly.
  4. Embroider a wide smile across rounds 6 and 7 in dark green, running almost from eye to eye.

Making it a different size

Every stitch count here scales together. To make this 10 cm frog larger or smaller, scale the magic ring and each round by the same factor — the pattern resizer does the arithmetic and rewrites the increase rounds. To keep the size but use a different yarn, the yarn weight converter shows what changes.
