A free crochet amigurumi little whale pattern with round-by-round instructions, stitch counts and assembly. Bulky weight, 5.0 mm hook, about 18 cm tall.

The simplest shape in this library, and the fastest: one body, one tail, two fins. Worked in bulky yarn it is finished in an evening, which makes it a good first amigurumi.
Before you start
Work in a continuous spiral without joining rounds, and move a stitch marker up
as you go. Every dec is an invisible decrease.
Numbers in brackets are the stitch count at the end of the round.
Abbreviations: MR magic ring · sc single crochet · inc two sc in one stitch · dec invisible decrease · st stitch.
Gauge is not critical, but the fabric must be dense enough that stuffing does not show through. If it does, drop a hook size.
Body
- Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
- Round 2: inc in each st around [12]
- Round 3: [sc 1, inc] 6 times [18]
- Round 4: [sc 2, inc] 6 times [24]
- Round 5: [sc 3, inc] 6 times [30]
- Round 6: [sc 4, inc] 6 times [36]
- Rounds 7–13: sc in each st around [36]
- Round 14: [sc 4, dec] 6 times [30]
- Round 15: [sc 3, dec] 6 times [24]
- Round 16: [sc 2, dec] 6 times [18]
- Round 17: [sc 1, dec] 6 times [12]
Work the lower half of rounds 8 to 18 in cream for the underside, carrying the unused colour inside. Place the eyes between rounds 10 and 11, well apart. Stuff firmly and evenly.
Tail — make 2 halves
- Round 1: 5 sc in magic ring [5]
- Round 2: inc in each st around [10]
- Rounds 3–5: sc in each st around [10]
Flatten each half and sc across to close. Do not stuff.
Fins — make 2
- Round 1: 4 sc in magic ring [4]
- Round 2: inc in each st around [8]
- Rounds 3–5: sc in each st around [8]
Flatten and close. Do not stuff.
Assembly
- Sew the two tail halves together at their bases, angled slightly apart, then attach to the last round of the body.
- Sew a fin to each side at round 12, low on the body.
- Embroider a small curved mouth across rounds 3 and 4 in a darker blue.
Making it a different size
Every stitch count here scales together. To make this 18 cm little whale larger or smaller, scale the magic ring and each round by the same factor — the pattern resizer does the arithmetic and rewrites the increase rounds.
